uncertainty

Wednesday, September 28th, 2005

I sent the Art Bell article to some of  my friends. One of them replied that it’s not true, that a Filipino, instead of the said journalist, wrote the "hate letter."

I’m not sure of the credibility of any of my sources. Just the same, ganun pa rin naman ang reply ko. Mas lalo pa ngang nakakainis kung sarili pa pala nating kababayan ang sumulat nun.

My Reply to the Hate Letter Written to the Filipinos

Tuesday, September 27th, 2005
This entry is my reaction against the "hate letter" written by Art Bell for the Filipinos. Art Bell is a talk radio host who has two shows that he broadcasts from his home in Nevada, that is rebroadcast by 400 stations across the United States.
He has written 2 books. He lived in Okinawa, Japan  for some years and had a radio program on the  English station in the States. And, though it’s hard to
believe after reading the following letter from him,  he has actually been to the Philippines.

The letter is written in black and my comments are in red.

Filipinos…..*make me puke* (Art Bell)
>>>>>OBVIOUSLY, HE USED THIS (*MAKE ME PUKE*) AS A TITLE BECAUSE IT WOULD CATCH ONE’S ATTENTION, ESPECIALLY IF THE READER IS A FILIPINO (IT IS INTENDED FOR THE FILIPINOS, RIGHT?) I KNOW NOTHING ABOUT THIS MAN’S REPUTATION, BUT HE SEEMS TO SHOW A LACK OF EDUCATION FOR RESORTING TO SUCH A REVOLTING PIECE OF WRITING.
As we’ve all come to notice, in the past few
decades, Filipinos have begun to infest the
United
States like some sort of disease. Their extensive
involvement in the U.S. Armed Forces is proof of
the trashy kind of qualities all filipinos tend
to
exhibit on a regular basis. You can see this
clearly
by studying the attitudes and cultural Icons of
most Filipino Americans.
>>>>>SINCE WHEN DID AN EXTENSIVE INVOLVEMENT IN THE U.S ARMED FORCES BECOME A PROOF OF TRASHY QUALITIES? BY SAYING THIS, DOES HE MEAN THAT THE ARMED FORCES ARE TRASHY, OR JUST THE FILIPINOS INVOLVED IN THE ORGANIZATION? BY NOT BEING SPECIFIC ABOUT IT, I WOULD THINK HE MEANT THAT ANYONE INVOLVED IN THE U.S. ARMED FORCES ARE TRASHY. (KINDLY RE-READ, "THEIR EXTENSIVE INVOLVEMENT IN THE U.S. ARMED FORCES IS A PROOF OF THE TRASHY KIND OF QUALITIES ALL FILIPINOS TEND TO EXHIBIT…") HIS SENTENCE MAKES ONES THINK THAT SOMETHING IS "TRASHY" ABOUT THE ORGANIZATIONS, NOT EXACTLY THE FILIPINOS INVOLVED.
Origins of Pinoys/Pinays:
Are they really asian? Well we’ve come to accept
the fact the filipinos come from a part of the
world
known as South East Asia.
>>>>THE "FACT" THAT FILIPINOS COME FROM SOUTH EAST ASIA IS, INDEED, A FACT, NOT TO BE DISPUTED BUT TO BE ACCEPTED. SINCE HE HAS "COME TO ACCEPT" THE GIVEN "FACT," WHY CAN’T HE ACCEPT THAT PEOPLE LIVING IN ASIA ARE CALLED "ASIANS" THE SAME WAY THOSE IN AMERICA ARE CALLED AMERICANS, IN EUROPE, EUROPIANS. THE TERM "ASIAN" IS NOT LIMITED TO THE PEOPLE LIVING IN THE "WELL-KNOWN" ASIAN COUNTRIES.
But the term "Asia" is
used in the wrong way. You may notice that
contemporary Filipino Americans try very hard to
associate themselves with groups that we know as
Asian.
>>>>> WRONG WAY????
I cannot count the number of times I have
seen a ‘Third World’ Filipino try to connect
themselves to the chinese or Japanese people.
There is no connection and here’s why. The
Philippines is a Third World country.
>>>>> SINCE WHEN DID OUR NATION’S STATUS BECOME AN ISSUE ON WHETHER OR NOT WE ARE RELATED TO ANY CULTURE?
"I AM FROM A THIRD WORLD COUNTRY, THEREFORE I AM NOT RELATED TO ANYONE FROM A FIRST WORLD COUNTRY" –> WOULD THIS SENTENCE BE CORRECT AT ALL TIMES?
Nothing
respectable has EVER been created by Filipino
people during our entire human history.
>>>>>(SOME FILIPINOS WERE CITED IN THE ORIGINAL MESSAGE I SENT)
Young
filipino men in America have become obsessed
with "import racing". They have an enormously
perverted affection for Japanese cars. It’s a
common phenomenon.
>>>>>ONE NEED NOT BE HIGHLY DISCRIMINATIVE OF THIS SINCE
MOST YOUNG MEN, IRRESPECTIVE OF RACES, SHOW AN ENORMOUS PERVERSION FOR CARS.
In their minds, these
Filipinos somehow believe that they are asian and
that it somehow connects them to Japanese
people and japanese cars. They often take credit
for the ingenuity of Japanese people and say how
it’s an "Asian thing". This term…"Asian thing"
derived directly from African American
slang "black
thang". "It’s a black thang." "It’s an asian
thang."
>>>>> THE JAPANESE ARE ASIAN. THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH SAYING, "IT’S AN ASIAN THING" OR MAYBE THE MR. BELL DEEMS IT MORE PROPER TO SAY, "IT’S A JAPANESE" THING INSTEAD.
You can see the connection.
>>>>>WHAT CONNECTION?
It’s even funnier
that,
in Japan, Filipinos are heavily discriminated
against.
>>>>>I’M NOT REALLY SURE HOW TO REACT ON THIS ONE SINCE I’VE NEVER BEEN TO JAPAN. HOWEVER, IF FILIPINOS ARE INDEED "HEAVILY DISCRIMINATED" THERE, WHY DO THE JAPANESE CONTINUALLY VISIT OUR COUNTRY TO STUDY AND DO BUSINESS? MY FRIEND IS CURRENTLY HIRED BY A JAPANESE BUSINESSMAN TO EDIT HIS BUSINESS LETTERS. AHE DIDN’T EVEN APPLY FOR THE JOB. SHE WAS SOUGHT-AFTER. IS THAT AN EXAMPLE OF HOW HEAVILY DISCRIMATED FILIPINOS ARE? STILL FIND IT FUNNY?
The only filipinos that can live
successfully in Japan are the filipino
prostitutes.
But that’s the case for most Filipino people no
matter where they live in the world. Now we’ve
come down to this fact…and it is a fact.
>>>>>HOW MANY FILIPINOS IN THE WORLD DOES MR. BELL KNOW ANYWAY TO CONCLUDE FOR A "FACT" THAT PROSTITUTION IS OUR TOP-RANKING JOB IN THE WORLD? I HAVE MANY RELATIVES AND FRIENDS WHO MIGRATED TO DIFFERENT COUNTRIES AND I’M PROUD TO SAY THAT ALL OF THEM HAVE MORALLY RESPECTABLE JOBS.
Nothing in Filipino Culture can be seen as Asian.
They have no architectural, artistic, or cultural
influence which is in ANY way, asian. Thinking of
the great countries in Asia such as Japan, Korea,
and China there is no way you can possibly
connect the Philippine Islands.
>>>>> I THINK HE NEEDS TO STUDY OUR CULTURE BETTER. OH, AND WHILE WE’RE AT IT, HE PROBABLY NEEDS TO STUDY HIS WORLD HISTORY BETTER (OR EVEN JUST TAKE A GLANCE AT AN ATLAS OR A MAP). "ASIA" DOES NOT MERELY ENCOMPASS "GREAT COUNTRIES" SUCH AS THOSE HE MENTIONED. THERE’S INDIA AND PAKISTAN, ARMENIA, BANGLADESH, BHUTAN, INDONESIA, NEPAL AND A LOT MORE (EVEN I DO NOT KNOW THEM ALL).
This assault by
filipino americans to connect themselves with the
great peoples of North East Asia is foul and
disgusting.
>>>>>…….????!!!!
Try visiting a young filipino’s web
site too.
You’ll see something called the "Asian IRC Ring".
It has to do with the chatrooms. The most
horrible
thing about this is that these TRASHY people are
trying to associate themselves with Asia again!!
People in Asia don’t act like this at all. What
we
are seeing here is the natural Filipino in its
element with full access to technology and this
is
how they act! You will consistently see this
behavior over and over again.
>>>>> AS I HAVE PREVIOUSLY MENTIONED, FILIPINOS ARE ASIAN. THESE PEOPLE HE CALLS "TRASHY" ARE MERELY ENJOYING THE BENEFITS THAT TECHNOLOGY BRINGS TO THEM. I MUST ADMIT THAT EVEN I PARTICIPATE IN CHATROOM DISCUSSIONS BUT I ALSO HAVE TO SAY THAT A LOT OF ASIANS AND OTHER RACES, FOR THAT MATTER, ARE IN THE CHATROOMS, AS WELL.
Another interesting thing is that
these "thirdworld"
people also frequent RC chatrooms such as
#chinese #japan and #asian. They must believe
that they are somehow related racially or
culturally
to North Asians. But it’s completely WRONG!
There might have been some distant contact With
China and even less with Japan during World War
II, but these people are actually more closely
related to african americans and Mexican
americans.
>>>>>BY REFUSING TO ASSOCIATE US WITH THE JAPANESE AND CHINESE, AND EVEN GOING AS FAR AS INCLUDING "AMERICANS" IN OUR RACIAL CONNECTIONS, DOES HE MEAN TO SAY HE ACTUALLY WANTS TO BE RELATED TO "THIRDWORLD" PEOPLE? HE IS AMERICAN, RIGHT?
Do the parents of these young filipinos know
what’s going on? Would they accept this? I
believe
that they would and do. This is the
natural "Trash"
element in filipinos manifesting itself. Nothing
good
has ever come from Philippines and I don’t
believe
anything good ever will.
>>>>>?????????!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Recognizing your Roots (A Message to Filipinos).
To all filipino people:
Please recognize your ROOTS! You come from
the Third World! You country is a disgusting and
filthy place. Most people there live in poverty!
>>>>>WE KNOW ARE ROOTS BUT MR. BELL OBVIOUSLY DOES NOT. IF THE PHILIPPINES IS INDEED A "DISGUSTING AND FILTHY PLACE" THEN WHY DO PEOPLE FROM INNUMERABLE RACES FREQUENTLY VISIT OUR COUNTRY? DO THEY FIND IT DISGUSTING? DO THEY LOVE THE FILTH? NO! THEY COME, AND MOST OFTEN COME BACK, BECAUSE THEY LOVE WHAT THEY SEE.
Your
culture has MUCH MORE SPANISH influence than
chinese, and absolutely no JAPANESE influence
whatsoever.
>>>>> OUR CULTURE IS A MIXTURE OF ALL THE CULTURES OF THE PEOPLE WHO RESIDED IN OUR COUNTRY. IT IS CONSTANTLY CHANGING OVER TIME. IT JUST GOES TO SHOW THAT OUR CULTURE IS ALIVE AND THRIVING.
People in Japan and China, do not act
like you. They do not constantly talk about sex
and they have a MUCH HIGHER level of RESPECT
for each other. There is NO WAY that you can
connect yourself to Asia other than location.
>>>>>I AM A FILIPINO. HAVE A TALKED ABOUT SEX IN THE TIME IT TOOK ME TO REPLY TO THIS MAIL? WOW! HOW CONSTANT IS THAT?
Your culture and technological advancement does
not even come CLOSE to What Chinese, people
have done in the past and what Japanese and
Korean people are doing now! Everything you do is
distinctly filipino.
>>>>>EVERY COUNTRY HAS ITS OWN TIME TO FLOURISH. THAT’S ALL I HAVE TO SAY ABOUT THAT PART.
You cannot take credit for
Japanese cars, video games, or Hentai! It’s not
an "asian thing" it’s an "American thing".
>>>>>HOLD ON A SECOND. "JAPANESE CARS" ARE AN "AMERICAN THING???" NOW THAT’S NEW! AND I NEVER KNEW "HENTAI" IS AN ENGLISH WORD. IS IT ACTUALLY INCLUDED IN AN ENGLISH DICTIONARY? NOW, TELL ME WHO’S TAKING CREDIT FOR SOMETHING THAT IS NOT HIS?
You
have
no concept of culture…no concept of asian ideas
or asian philosophy! Can you demonstrate how
you use Confucianism or Taoism in you everyday
life?? You can’t. And you will NEVER be able to.
>>>>>IF WE LIVED BY THOSE PHILOSOPHIES/RELIGIONS, THEN WE PROBABLY COULD, BUT MOST OF US WERE RAISED AS CATHOLICS, SO WE LIVE BY THE TEACHINGS OF OUR CHURCH. SAYING WE "WILL NEVER BE ABLE TO," HOWEVER, IS DEFINITELY FALLACIOUS. YOU MIGHT BE SURPRISED TO KNOW THAT FILIPINOS ARE EXCEPTIONALLY FAST LEARNERS.
I understand that you are trying to create an
identity for yourselves as young people… but it
is
NOT related to Asia. Your Identity is Filipino.
That’s all you are. Just Filipino. Think about
what
that means….
>>>>>"I AM JUST A FILIPINO."
NO. Hmmmm…."I AM A FILIPINO."
NOW THAT DEFINITELY SOUNDS BETTER. =)

J0382966 ***The Keys to Your Heart***

You are attracted to those who are unbridled, untrammeled, and free. (am i?!)

In love, you feel the most alive when things are straight-forward, and you’re told that you’re loved. (straight no chaser?!)

You’d like to your lover to think you are optimistic and happy. (i am happy. optimistic..umm….ehehehe)

You would be forced to break up with someone who was ruthless, cold-blooded, and sarcastic. (sino kayang hindi???)

Your ideal relationship is open. Both of you can talk about everything… no secrets. (honest and open relationship. how many times have i said this?)

Your risk of cheating is zero. You care about society and morality. You would never break a commitment. (i hate cancelled appointments. huh?! connection?!)

You think of marriage as something precious. You’ll treasure marriage and treat it as sacred. (yihiiii….)

In this moment, you think of love as commitment. Love only works when both people are totally devoted. (…like a balance scale. <ngek. san yun galing?!>)

Lost Words

Picture054a Just a few weeks ago, magkausap kami ni Nins sa phone. Nakakainis.

Dati kasi "Glimpse of My Seishin" ang title nito. Tapos ngayon, as you can see, "Dotted Fragments" na. Mas akma kasi sakin ‘to lately e.

Lalo ko pang napansin ‘to kahapon. A friend asked for my help regarding a business letter. It should’ve been a very simple task, considering na maikli lang naman yung sulat. Kaso lang, na-stuck kami sa isang paragraph. It took us almost three hours to finish it when, normally, it should’ve been done in just a few minutes. At sa tingin ko hindi pa talaga yun matatapos if his grandfather didn’t help us out. Siguro naawa na siya sa aming "fervent desire" to finish the feverish task <wink>.

Survivor Guatemala

Ep01_02

I didn’t even know it would be aired today if Errol did not tell me about it (Errrr…thanks ha!Ü)

Hinintay pa namin yung live telecast this afternoon pero wala naman. Sa primetime ko na lang tuloy pinanood.

It’s been such a long, loooooooonnng time mula nung huli akong nakasubaybay ng Survivor at sana naman matapos kong panoorin ang season na ‘to.

Sa Guatemala ang setting, sa ruins ng Maya tribe (I remember being so fascinated with the discussions about the native American tribes in our world history subject back in fourth year high school).

Sana pwede akong sumali sa ganitong mga shows. I love the adventure. Sabi nga nung isang contestant (si Brandon nga ba o si Blake?), "…the last time I hiked 11 miles was…never."

Sa huli, si Jim ang natanggal. This really made me sad because, for some reason, I have a special place in my heart for the elderly (and children and the sick and…many more). Kaso lang, given that he made a sling using his shirt just to support his arm after the last challenge, it was logical that the team voted him off. The game has just begun and each team would want to be stronger than the other.

Laine!

Thursday, September 15th, 2005

I’m trying to help out a friend..pero mukhang tinulugan na yata nya ako (oist, pag nabasa mo ‘to..hmp! buti na lang mabait ako. hehe)

Natuwa ako this Wednesday. Nagreport kami sa PhysAg. Pag-upo ko after the report, nakaupo sa may likuran ko ang prof namin. Tinawag niya ako, "Laine," at bigla akong kinabahan.

Busy Day

Sunday, September 11th, 2005

I woke up early (after sleeping so late) for the 7:30am mass.

Ngayon lang ‘to nangyari.

Jonas, for that, mahal kita. hehehe. =)

Nagkwentuhan lang kami dito. Saka picture-taking ulit. haha. Sobrang saya.

Happy 20th birthday Lovenel!!!

Happy 3rd birthday Kiara!!!

Harry Potter

Saturday, September 10th, 2005

I finished reading it two weeks ago.

I already knew the story prior to reading it because some friends told/emailed/texted me about it. I was greatly devastated by the information. I would’ve preferred to learn about it by actually reading the book.

I ceaselessly cried from the chapter "The Cave" to the very end of the book…and my brother would eternally tease me for doing so.

Oh well, I won’t post any other comments here for the sake of those who hate spoilers. Ü

Have fun reading. Ü

Gilai: Laine, patext…

Laine: ha? (nakakunot ang noo)

Gilai: diba naka-globe unlimited ka?

Laine: kakain din ako (naiinis na)

Gilai: ha???

Laine: ano? (naguluhan na)

<bangag!>

sept 8. thursday.

Umuwi na ako dito sa bahay. My shoulder is still very painful. Nag-internet mula kaninang 11pm hanggang ngayon (3:42am). Ka-chat ko si Dhates. =) I’m so happy kasi magaling na siya. =)

My health, my health. I’m getting more concerned each day. This morning, I almost collapsed after the mass (special mass for Papa <my grandfather>. It’s his ninth death anniversary).

[sigh] I really need some time off some things.
